Tottenham Hotspur are facing a massive squad overhaul in the summer. The Lilywhites need a structural reset and new players need to be brought in if the club wants to close the gap to its rivals and compete in the top end of the Premier League table. Daniel Levy needs to cash in on underperforming players to generate funds for new arrivals in the summer.
The North London club faces the prospect of losing many top players once the season ends. Star midfielder James Maddison is linked with a move to Manchester City , with the Cityzens willing to spend €65m on the England international. Pep Guardiola views him as the perfect replacement of the outgoing Kevin de Bruyne.
Other potential departure includes holding midfielder Yves Bissouma. The Mali international has fallen down the pecking order at N17 and has not lived up to his expectations this season. The Spurs No.8 has attracted suitors from Saudi Arabia and Aston Villa. Rodrigo Bentancur is another midfielder that is facing an uncertain future at the club, with Atletico Madrid aiming to land the Uruguay international.
It was reported earlier in the week that Tottenham were interested in signing Morten Frendrup from Genoa. Spurs see him a potential replacement of Yves Bissouma and have kept a track of his performances in recent months. The Denmark international has endured a successful campaign under Patrick Vieira and has decided to move to pastures new in the summer.
Genoa have also set a price tag of £17m for the talented midfielder as they prepare for his exit. However, Spurs face a stumbling block in their pursuit of Frendrup. The 24-year-old wants to play in Europe’s elite competition next season. Also, Tottenham are not the only ones willing to land the Genoa star.
GIVEMESPORT have now reported that West Ham United, Fiorentina and AC Milan have entered the race to sign Morten Frendrup in the summer. The report also suggests that Brentford are interested in signing the Denmark international. But a deal looks unlikely as Frendrup prefers a move to a big club that is competing for European football.
If Daniel Levy manages to land the 24-year-old, then Tottenham’s midfield will be set for years to come. Morten Frendrup will fit in perfectly at N17 as well. The Denmark international tends to dictate the tempo of the game and contribute on both ends of the pitch. One of Frendrup’s key strengths is recovering the ball in the final third of the pitch and initiating a counter-press. That will suit Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.
Fans will hope that Daniel Levy brings in new players in the summer. The Lilywhites have endured a disastrous campaign and they will need a strong lineup next season if they want to have any chance of closing the gap on their rivals.
