Adam Wharton is one of the names that has been linked with a move to Manchester United over the course of the next year with Ruben Amorim weighing up his options ahead of the inevitable January transfer window.
Wharton, who has picked up one cap for the England national team during his career, currently plays for Crystal Palace where he has been since 2024.
Since joining Palace, the midfielder has made 57 appearances and played a crucial role in the side winning the FA Cup at the end of last season.
These performances saw links between Adam Wharton and Manchester United emerge with Wharton dropping a hint towards his future in the summer through lifting his training vest and pointing directly at the Palace badge, therefore seemingly signalling his commitment to Selhurst Park.
Furthermore, since the end of the summer window, it was revealed that the midfielder would prefer a move to Liverpool instead of Manchester United.
Now, with the 21-year-old already on a six-man shortlist of potential midfield targets, the Crystal Palace player has broken his silence by commenting on the links between Manchester United and himself.
In an interview with The Athletic, Adam Wharton stated: “I don’t really look into it or think too much about it.
“There are always rumours floating about on social media. Is it true? Is it not? You tell me.
“My friends, my family, my brothers, everyone will message me and be like, ‘Is it true this club’s interested?’ I’m like, ‘Thanks for telling me because I didn’t know.'”.
Furthermore, addressing the links with United directly, he stated: “I don’t know who’s spreading it or who at United is looking at it. I see it and I’m like, ‘OK’, and then I carry on with my day.
“United, the big teams, they’re all linked to 10, 20 different players. If I’m one of 20, then it’s nothing special, so it doesn’t really mean too much. I speak with my agent about planning ahead and possibilities.
“But at the end of the day, it is who’s interested and who’s willing to try and get you and if that becomes the case?
“You can speak about it, but you’ve got to represent that on the pitch and prove that you deserve it.”
