One of Manchester United’s two Bryan Mbeumo alternatives, Antoine Semenyo, has just signed a new five-year deal with Bournemouth.
The in-demand forward had garnered interest from a host of clubs heading into the summer, including United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Yet, with neither side going as far as submitting a bid to prise him from Bournemouth’s grasp, the club have been able to tie him down to the Vitality Stadium until 2030.
Both ESPN and David Ornstein had confirmed that Semenyo was a concrete target for the Red Devils in the event they failed to sign Mbeumo. Having just had their second bid rejected, nothing is guaranteed just yet.
Ruben Amorim’s attack is in dire need of reinforcements following a calamitous campaign, which saw them score only 44 Premier League goals. Matheus Cunha’s arrival has undoubtedly added some optimism to the Old Trafford faithful in the build-up to the new season, but INEOS will be well aware that more additions are essential before 2025/2026 gets underway next month.
Semenyo, who scored 11 goals and contributed a further six assists in 37 appearances last term, certainly wouldn’t have gone amiss.
From Bournemouth’s perspective, they’ll just be thankful they’ve managed to cling onto their talisman as well as manager Andoni Iraola in a window which has already seen them part ways with Milos Kerkez (Liverpool) and Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid).
Eberechi Eze was another name added to United’s shortlist in June, although he has more recently been linked with a move to Arsenal.
