Tottenham Hotspur appear to have gotten off to a blistering start in the January transfer window in terms of strengthening their squad to ensure that Ange Postecoglou can help them compete at the highest level. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Spurs “keep working” on their efforts to sign Genoa centre-back Dragusin in the January window to improve the quality of their backline. He adds that they are doing this while ironing out the final details to sign RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner on loan until the end of the season.
The journalist states that talks will continue over the weekend between the Lilywhites and the Serie A club about the financial structure of a possible transfer for the Romanian defender. Even though it has been reported that Postecoglou will soon have centre-back Micky van de Ven back in action, it seems he wants more cover in the central defensive position with a player like Dragusin.
The Lilywhites currently seem to be focused on getting the deals for Werner and Dragusin over the line, but there is activity on other fronts too. It has also been reported that their defender Eric Dier is in talks with Bayern Munich over a possible switch in the winter transfer window after being shut out under the current gaffer.
Spurs already sold Harry Kane to the Bundesliga heavyweights last summer and are unlikely to stand in Dier’s way if he wants the move and the terms are correct. For now, however, they seem to be trying to find an upgrade over him in Dragusin, who has been described as a Romanian “warrior” for his performances in Italy.
In 19 league appearances this season, the 21-year-old has scored two goals and helped his side keep three clean sheets and concede only one goal in matches against Inter Milan and Juventus.
