It’s been three and a half years since Ajax last won the Eredivisie, and being 16 points off reigning champions PSV Eindhoven, they may have to wait a little longer to lift the title again.

Ajax still hold the record number of league titles however, with 36 to their name, still a hefty lead over PSV in second place.

Eindhoven’s title-winning season last year took their total number of league titles to 26, with this campaign looking to add another to the list.

However, Ajax are still hoping to close the gap and are looking to one Manchester United star in particular to do so.

Dutch publication VI has reported that Ajax are looking at a loan deal for Manuel Ugarte as one of several options this winter transfer window.

The Dutch club are looking to capitalise on Ugarte’s limited gametime at Old Trafford, being able to offer more minutes on the pitch.

Since moving to United from PSG in summer 2024 for £42 million, the Uruguay international has failed to impress.

Ugarte joined under Erik ten Hag, however after the Dutchman’s dismissal, has seen most of his United spell managed by Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese manager had a history with Ugarte, having managed him at Sporting CP, however was unimpressed by the midfielder at Old Trafford.

As such, Manuel Ugarte has only made 14 appearances all season, with only six of them seeing him start the game.

With the offer of more gametime from Ajax, the report suggests that Ugarte isn’t against the move to the Netherlands, with the main issue being an agreement with United.

Although Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes are set to return from injury for tonight’s game against Burnley, the club still have limited depth in midfield.

On top of this, Ajax would struggle to pay Ugarte’s multi-million-pound salary, needing to negotiate a split with The Red Devils.
