Manchester United’s transfer strategy has been dealt a blow, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal approaching one of their targets.
The Red Devils are looking to improve their squad in the transfer market, particularly in forward areas, in response to the seemingly imminent departure of Joshua Zirkzee and to alleviate the pressure on Benjamin Sesko as the only recognised centre forward at the club.
The scouting department has been busy across Europe, trying to identify promising players who could be utilised by the first team should a deal be agreed.
Unfortunately, a player that has been brought to the attention of the club may be on the move elsewhere in a deal that appears to be advancing.
Mohamed Meite of Stade Rennais is of interest to the Saudi Pro League outfit and according to Santi Aouna, the transfer is moving forward.
The French U21 international has netted three times already this season and has been the provider for a further two goals in Ligue 1.
“Al-Hilal is insisting on Kader Meïté. The attacker has been looking into the Saudi championship in recent days, proof that the idea of a departure is gaining ground.” Santi Aouna reported on social media platform X.
“Manchester United is showing interest, if one of their attackers leaves.”
Meite was one of two players Manchester United have seen as potential signings from Stade Rennais, with him being observed by scouts alongside defender Jeremy Jacquet last year.
Both have featured 17 times for Rennes, with Meite being handed six starts so far this campaign and accumulating 530 minutes in the league.
Attention will now turn elsewhere for Manchester United in their pursuit for additions, with further options now likely to move up the priority list if Meite is to join Al-Hilal.
