The 2024/25 season was a blow to us that will be hard to forget. Finishing 15th in the Premier League, losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and then missing out on any European tournament next season—all happened in the same year. Bringing in Ruben Amorim halfway through the season was a bit of a hopeful move, but the damage was done. Still, true fans don’t give up hope in such tough times, and that’s what we all did.
This summer, the club have spent money on some big names. The likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have come in, who have Premier League experience and can bring something different. Bringing in a youngster like Diogo Leon seems like a decision made with the future in mind. Amidst all this, there have been some rumours that have caught our attention—especially about the player who was the only one shining last season, and when it comes to Bruno Fernandes, as a fan, the heart becomes cautious.
According to a report in Mail Sport, Bruno Fernandes’ agent had talks with Al-Hilal, and an offer of £200 million was also received. Fernandes turned down that offer on the advice of Amorim, but now A Bola has revealed that Al-Nassr are considering making an offer for the 30-year-old midfielder. Jorge Jesus, who gave the Portuguese international his debut at Sporting Lisbon, is now keen to sign him back.
If the deal goes through, Fernandes will join the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Otavio and Joao Felix in Riyadh. Bruno Fernandes is not just a captain, but the linchpin of Manchester United’s entire playing style. He controls the tempo, makes the final pass, scores goals and even helps in defence when needed. The 30-year-old’s experience and consistent high-level performance make him indispensable for United.
We want Fernandes to stay. It’s nearing the end of the transfer window, and finding a playmaker like him is unlikely. Amorim’s strategy can now only be built around Bruno. There’s no European football in the new season, but a return to the top four in the domestic league is a possibility, but that doesn’t seem likely without Fernandes.
United shouldn’t be looking at just the money at this point. As great as a big offer might seem from the Saudi club, the long-term damage would be far more significant. Finding a player as hard-working and dedicated as Bruno is not easy. Amorim needs time to build the team, and keeping a leader like the Portuguese international should be the first step. If we lose our captain in the greed of a deal, it will be the end of rebuilding, not the beginning.
