Tottenham Hotspur are among several clubs keen to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze

Eberechi Eze has been the subject of intense speculation in recent months, with links away from Crystal Palace.

Tottenham Hotspur are among several Premier League clubs keen on signing Eberechi Eze, who is expected to head into the summer transfer window as one of the most coveted commodities. The 26-year-old has gone from strength to strength in recent years at Selhurst Park, impressing with his vision, creativity and goalscoring ability.

This summer could be the one when Eze moves on from Palace and makes the jump to one of the division’s bigwigs. Spurs have been keeping tabs on the England international’s situation with the Eagles and may decide to trigger the £68million release clause in his contract.

Speaking on the talkSPORT show, former Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew, however, has rubbished Eze to Tottenham links. He has laughed at the suggestion of the Greenwich-born talent swapping Selhurst Park for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

“Did you say Eze by the way? What makes you think you’ll get him?” Pardew asked talkSPORT presenter and Tottenham fan Majestic.

“He won’t go to Spurs. Can’t see it. He’s the man at the moment. He’s probably in the top 10 Premier League players at the moment.”

Pardew’s claim is the polar opposite of recent reports suggesting that Eze would be open to joining Tottenham, although he is unlikely to force through a move for Palace. The England international is one of the highly-rated attacking talents in the Premier League, and he would undoubtedly bolster Ange Postecoglou’s current squad at N17. The 26-year-old’s versatility allows him to seamlessly operate both as a winger and an attacking midfielder, offering creativity and flair in the final third.

Premier League proven and with his best years ahead, Eze could take his game to another level at White Hart Lane. However, to put the club in a strong position to lure him across the capital, Ange’s men must qualify for Europe next season. Their only chance of achieving the objective now rests in the Europa League.

If Spurs win the Europa League trophy and achieve Champions League qualification, their hold in the transfer market will naturally become higher. And that would position themselves well to battle against our Premier League rivals for Eze’s services.

As things currently stand, though, Pardew is correct. If Tottenham want to prove the talkSPORT pundit wrong and give ourselves a chance of landing the Palace talisman, we have to win the Europa League by hook or crook.
