Toby Alderweireld claims he is happy to have left Tottenham as he had little time to see his family while he played for the Lilywhites.

The Lilywhites sold the 32-year-old in this transfer window as they prepared for the arrival of Cristian Romero from Atalanta.

He had been given a new Tottenham contract under Jose Mourinho last season and would have expected to stay at the club for some time before eventually leaving.

However, Spurs cashed in on him and he has now revealed that he is delighted to have left the high-paced Premier League.

The new Al-Duhail signing was speaking about leaving Tottenham and admitted that he couldn’t turn down the financial package on offer before claiming that at Spurs he hardly saw his family.

He desires to watch his kids grow and he spent time away from them when he was at Tottenham, but has more time for them at his present club.

“Well, I could hardly refuse this adventure. Also financially, of course, I will not be silly about that,” the former Spurs man was quoted as saying by Het Laatste Nieuws.

“I have two children and at Tottenham I saw them very little. That hurt more and more. In Qatar I will see them more and that is very important to me. I want to see my children grow up and that can be done much better at my current club.

“At Tottenham it frustrated me that I had to leave my family behind too often, sometimes we played three times a week, with a seclusion before each time. That started to wring more and more.”
