Alejandro Garnacho looked to be the next big thing at Manchester United, rising through the academy ranks and breaking into the senior squad.

However, in the wake of Erik ten Hag’s departure, a public bust-up with Ruben Amorim saw the winger cast out, becoming a member of the “bomb squad”.

Garnacho was joined by Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia as priority sales last summer, with Garnacho making a £40 million move to Stamford Bridge.

Now, nearly a year on from his move to Chelsea, the 21-year-old has made 37 appearances, grabbing eight goals and four assists across all competitions.

When looking at his Premier League stats, he’s only scored one goal and grabbed four assists in 20 games, and as such, there’s doubt over his Stamford Bridge future.

Now, Argentinian broadcaster TyC, as reported by Football London, has revealed that a homecoming to Argentina could be on the cards.

The outlet explained that River Plate’s manager, Eduardo Coudet, has made contact with Garnacho over a season-long loan deal to help him get back on his feet.

Unfortunately, Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior is starting to rely on the winger less as of late, giving him only 33 minutes against PSG across both legs of the Champions League Last 16, and 29 minutes against Port Vale in the FA Cup.

As such, a temporary move from Chelsea could work well for Garnacho to get back to the form that was seen at Old Trafford without the pressure and demands of the Premier League.

However, River Plate may not be the best option for him, given their fierce rivalry with Boca Juniors, who the Garnacho family are firm supporters of.

That isn’t the biggest obstacle for Plate to overcome, however, as the main issue with signing the winger would be his salary.

River Plate’s weekly wage bill is around £545,000 per week, with Alejandro Garnacho currently being paid 20% of that at £110,000 per week.

So, River Plate would need to negotiate heavily with either Chelsea to cover some of the wages or Garnacho to take a pay cut.
