Former Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho spared Chelsea’s blushes in their UEFA Champions League tie away to Azerbaijani side Qarabağ earlier today.

After going 1-0 up thanks to Estêvão, the Blues quickly found themselves behind as the hosts sent shockwaves through goals from Leandro Andrade and Marko Janković.

Garnacho came off the bench at halftime and found the net in the 52nd minute to bring Enzo Maresca’s side level after a long ball from Liam Delap. Despite more possession and shots, more successful passes and corners, Chelsea could not find a way to break down the hosts and get the winner they desired.

BBC Sport reported that Garnacho became the first player to score for two different English clubs in the Champions League whilst aged 21 and under. This marks the second goal of his career in the tournament, his other coming for United in a 3-3 away draw to Galatasaray in November 2023.

This marks the second goal in Garnacho’s time at Chelsea so far since arriving from United for £40 million in the summer. He took a while to get going at the club, but now has a couple goals in his last three games. It is not a good sight for his former club, after what was a disappointing end to his time at Old Trafford.

A social media post after being dropped for United’s Europa League final starting lineup signalled the beginning of the end for Garnacho’s time at the club. This resulted in a fall out with manager Ruben Amorim, who also questioned whether he was paying attention to instructions.

Garnacho had some great moments in the famous red shirt, including his wonder goal against Everton, winning the Puskas Award. However, any success at Chelsea that he has will not be thought of too fondly by the United fanbase.
