Alex Morgan returns for U.S. against France after minute injury absence
Michael Chow-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Morgan missed a little over a minute of game time during the USA’s quarterfinal match against France at the Women’s World Cup on Friday, causing the team to play shorthanded briefly.

Morgan attempted a header that she did not seem to strike squarely during the first half. Then a little later, she was down on the pitch getting attention during a hydration break. She headed off but returned a little over a minute later.

Morgan got hurt in the group stage win over Sweden and did not appear to be 100 percent against Spain on Monday. Spain also got physical with her during the match, fouling her multiple times.

“Yeah, it was difficult. I thought that it was worthy of some yellow cards,” she said after the match. “I’m pretty sure that I got fouled in the double digits. Got a good crack of my back, so I don’t need the [chiropractor) anymore. It was a challenging one for me.”

Morgan scored five goals in the team’s first game at the event, a 13-0 win over Thailand. She has yet to score since then.
