Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Lauds Liverpool Fans As He Bids Farewell To Anfield

The 29-year-old was not part of the Reds' squad as Roberto Firmino rescued a point with an 89th-minute equaliser against Villa to keep alive the Reds' faint hopes of securing Champions League football next season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Liverpool from Arsenal in the summer of 2017 and helped the club win seven titles during his time with Jurgen Klopp's side.

Tributes were also paid to the departing, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, and James Milner who will all leave when their contracts expire this simmer.

"I think journey is the right way to put it. It has been a journey but I've thoroughly enjoyed every single minute of it. Of course there's been some tough times but there's been some absolutely amazing memories and amazing times," Oxlade-Chamberlain told Liverpoolfc.com.

"It's a bit surreal at the minute and it's not quite sunk in just yet. It's a nice way to finish things, for sure. The fans are amazing as always and, for sure, I'll miss that.

"Of course. They're obviously all things you want to look back at for the rest of your life and I'm proud I managed to achieve some of those moments. Sometimes Liverpool fans remind me what a special night that was and they remember that goal specifically. 

"When you are playing and you are always constantly trying to play the next game, do more, you sometimes lose focus on that or perspective. That was obviously an amazing moment but, like I said, there's been so many. It'll all hit me soon.

He added: "They're the best fans I have ever played in [front of], I've ever seen. The support that they show home and away – no matter the situation – has been amazing. I'm lucky enough to have been here at a time when we were really successful and to see them so excited through moments."

"It's a level of support that I haven't seen before and I'm not sure I'll see again. It has been an absolute honour to have been able to play for them and something I will definitely miss.

"I don't know what happens next. It will be a busy summer chasing after him [his boy] and then seeing what comes next. But yeah, I'm sure I will probably be back here at some point in the difficult away dressing room, against these fans – I've done it before. 

"I'll try to do my best and if I manage to score or anything, I won't be celebrating, I promise you that, because I've got so much respect for everything that I've been through here. But I told Virgil I might actually be able to dribble past him for the first time ever!"
