Ederson’s arrival from Atalanta is expected to move a step closer now that Brazil’s World Cup campaign is over, with the midfielder set to undergo his medical after the Selecao’s elimination.

Even with that deal nearing completion, Michael Carrick is determined to add further quality and depth as United prepare for a demanding campaign that includes Champions League football.

Several midfielders remain under consideration, but one Premier League talent has now provided an interesting development regarding his future.

Alex Scott provides transfer boost to Manchester United

According to The Athletic, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has rejected attempts by the Cherries to extend his current contract, giving interested clubs fresh encouragement despite the south coast side refusing to entertain a sale.

Scott’s existing agreement still runs until 2028, meaning Bournemouth remain in a strong negotiating position.

Club officials are continuing to insist that the 22-year-old is not available this summer, even after the midfielder declined their latest contract proposals.

Manchester United are among Scott’s biggest admirers and have continued monitoring his situation throughout the transfer window.

Arsenal have already seen an enquiry rejected by Bournemouth, while Manchester City have also made contact over the highly-rated midfielder.

United have likewise registered their interest, although Bournemouth’s stance has remained unchanged.

The Cherries are understood to have placed an £80 million valuation on Alex Scott but have no intention of encouraging bids during the current transfer window.

Despite that firm position, Scott’s decision to reject a new deal is likely to keep speculation surrounding his future alive.

The midfielder remains one of several names on Manchester United’s shortlist as Carrick looks to reshape the centre of the pitch.

Alongside Scott, United continue to monitor Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni, Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba and Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha.

After missing out on Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur, the club also shifted part of its attention towards Chelsea youngster Andrey Santos.

Although discussions have not yet begun between the clubs, Chelsea are believed to be open to a transfer should a deal prove beneficial for all parties.

United have also previously explored moves for Fulham’s Sander Berge, who has impressed with Norway during the World Cup, while Tyler Adams has enhanced his reputation after a strong tournament with the United States.

For now, Scott remains under contract at Bournemouth, but his refusal to commit to fresh terms is a situation Manchester United will undoubtedly continue watching closely as they search for further midfield reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
