Alexander Isak’s transfer saga dramatically deepens amid Liverpool interest

Alexander Isak has broken his silence on his uncertain future at Newcastle United, declaring that “when promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.”

In a strongly worded Instagram post released on Tuesday, which aligned with the 2025 PFA Awards, which he skipped despite being nominated for Player of the Year, the Sweden international accused the club of failing to honor commitments that had persuaded him to stay until now.

Isak added that his silence in recent weeks had allowed “others to push their own version of events,” insisting that internal agreements had long been in place.

The 25-year-old’s statement comes against the backdrop of intensifying transfer speculation. Liverpool reportedly submitted a bid in excess of £110M ($148.4M) earlier this summer, but Newcastle are understood to be holding out for closer to £150M ($202.4M).

With the window entering its final fortnight, the prospect of a late breakthrough is growing.

Newcastle, however, remain reluctant to sanction Isak’s departure without a replacement. Its attempts to recruit a striker have so far been unsuccessful, with Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, Joao Pedro and Liam Delap all slipping from its grasp.

Current targets are believed to include Jorgen Strand Larsen and Yoane Wissa, with the latter appearing to push for a move after removing all Brentford references from his social media and refusing to play.

The stand-off leaves Newcastle under mounting pressure. Losing Isak without a ready-made successor would be a major blow, but retaining a striker who has publicly declared his loss of trust in the club presents its own risks.

As the deadline approaches, both Newcastle and Liverpool face a decisive few weeks that could reshape its seasons.
