It is not often that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy shares the same vision as the manager at N17. The Englishman has always focused on maximising profit and commercialising the club, and sometimes that has come at the expense of the Lilywhites missing out on winning a silverware. The club chairman’s questionable footballing decisions has not helped Spurs grow in the last two decades as well.
From sacking Mauricio Pochettino just six months after the Argentinian managed to lead the club to its first ever Champions League final, to relieving Ange Postecoglou from his duties just two weeks after the Europa League success… Daniel Levy has done it all and has made himself the villain in the eyes of the Spurs fans.
The North London club has always taken two steps back after taking a step forward under Daniel Levy. Now its Thomas Frank’s turn to work with the Englishman, and fans will hope that the Europa League success might change the outlook of how Levy usually operates things at N17. The ex-Brentford boss needs to be backed in the summer if he wants to kickstart a new era at Hotspur Way.
It does not scream ‘belief’ after seeing Thomas Frank’s contract expires in three years. The Danish tactician has a massive task of filling in the shoes of Ange Postecoglou, and three years might not be enough for the ex-Brentford boss to instil a winning culture at N17 following the Europa League success. One wrong step taken by the 51-year-old, and Daniel Levy will pounce on him and go for his head.
However, the newly appointed Spurs boss is eager to work with the club’s hierarchy and wants to form an ‘unbreakable unit.’ Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur channel, Frank said,
“I think the alignment is key from top to bottom, and of course it starts from Daniel and Vinai and Johan and me, and the more the four of us can be aligned, just like a unit and like unbreakable unit, the stronger we will be, and there will be ups and downs. I think right now it’s a fairy tale. Everyone is happy. The sun is shining.”
The Spurs boss added,
“It’s fantastic, but we haven’t played one game yet. Hopefully we win a lot. We’ll work very hard every single day to make sure we create as many magic moments for the fans, and put them together and hopefully at the end of the season there will be a very good season, but the alignment in terms of structure, processes, transfers, squad, playing style, culture, all that is key.”
Thomas Frank has suggested that alignment with the club’s hierarchy is important. The Dane wants to head towards the same goal that is being set out by Daniel Levy, and acknowledges that the club might face some ups and downs along the way. Frank also insists that he wants to win trophies at the club, and that will start with getting the transfers and structure right.
This might be refreshing for the Spurs fans to see as they have finally appointed a manager that knows how he wants to fix the wrongdoings at the club. The Lilywhites have never managed to address all the problems in recent years, so to see a manager willing to take that challenge on and work towards the goal of instilling a winning culture is a sigh for sore eyes.
