Alistair Johnston set for Jesse Marsch link-up as ex-Leeds boss named Canada manager

Celtic star Alistair Johnston is set to link up with former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, who has been appointed as the new Canadian National Team manager. Marsch was out of work after leaving Leeds United in 2023 but now looks set to make the transition into the international arena.

In a post on Twitter/X, CANMNT’s Kevin Blue confirmed that they would be appointing Marsch after an extensive recruitment process was concluded.

With a number of management roles with the Red Bull football group, Marsch will look to push on with Canada and take charge of their pre-Copa America game against Netherlands and France.

Celtic will be glad to see Marsch appointed as he is someone that has a link with the club after they sponsored him to do his Pro Licence in Scotland in the past. It also means that the club and country can liaise over the wellbeing of star right-back Johnston, who often starts for both. It was on the back of displays for Canada that Johnston joined Ange Postecoglou’s side and the full-back will be targeting a key role under Marsch ahead of the 2026 World Cup that sees Canada co-host the event.
