Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has managed to survive at N17 despite all the poor results in the Premier League. The Australian has come under immense scrutiny from the media and the fans, but is still leading the team for the most important part of the season. The Lilywhites are facing their biggest test of the season when they take on Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany in the Europa League on Thursday.
With the club heading in a downward spiral, fans had seen enough, and several protests were held against the ownership and the board. The acceptance of mediocre performances has not helped the cause either, as Ange Postecoglou managed to lose his 17th Premier League game of the season. The North London club find themselves in the bottom half of the league table.
With the league campaign already written off, the Europa League acts as a saving grace and the last chance for Tottenham to secure silverware. Spurs find themselves in the quarter-finals of the competition and have a good shot at progressing through to the next round. Ange’s men drew the first leg of the quarters at home to Frankfurt, and now face the return leg in Germany a week later.
The Europa League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt is arguably the biggest game of Ange Postecoglou’s tenure at N17. Simply put, the Lilywhites must progress to the next round if the Australian wants to be at the helm next week. It is not going to be an easy task, but if Spurs play like they did in the first leg, then there is a strong chance that the result will go in their favour.
When asked about his future at Tottenham in his pre-match presser, Ange Postecoglou said (as transcribed by Football.london),
“Do I know? No, I’ve got no idea. We’ve got a game tomorrow night… but it’s not something I need to think about I don’t think. I’ve never thought about those kinds of things in terms of what’s important. What I do know is we have an opportunity to get to the final four of a major tournament and that’s where my focus is.”
The Spurs manager blatantly denies knowing about his future if the Lilywhites fail to progress through to the next round. Big Ange insists that his team are rather focused on the task at hand and wants to progress through to the semi-finals of the Europa League instead. With the games coming thick and fast, the 59-year-old wants his team to focus on bringing silverware back to N17.
There is so much at stake for Ange Postecoglou when his side takes on Eintracht Frankfurt. All the eyes will be on his team and if they can manage to carve out a result in Germany. With the league campaign being a disaster, fans will hope that the players step up in the Europa League and keep the dream of ending the 17-year trophy drought with a European trophy alive.

Barring any late intervention from Manchester United, Newcastle United are poised to reign victorious in the race for Benjamin Sesko. Indeed, the Magpies have had to step up their efforts to sign a centre-forward in the aftermath of last week’s blockbuster revelation that Alexander Isak had informed the board of his desire to explore other options this summer. His timing was deemed rather puzzling, given Arsenal, one of his potential suitors, had just reached an agreement for Viktor Gyokeres, Chelsea had signed both Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, and Liverpool beat Newcastle to the acquisition of one of their first-choice targets, Hugo Ekitike. Yet, the latter look set to continue their luxurious summer spending spree this week after agreeing a deal to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65 million – paving the way for them to submit a lucrative proposal for Isak in the coming days. Benjamin Sesko to Newcastle: The state of play Alas, Newcastle have – albeit begrudgingly – been made to identify a suitable successor to their prolific frontman, and have landed on Sesko as the eligible heir to Isak’s throne. Journalist Nicolo Schira revealed last night that the Slovenian international had reached ‘an agreement in principle’ with Newcastle, which would see him sign a five-year deal at St. James’ Park. Now, it’s up to the club to find an agreement with RB Leipzig, who’ve stood firm in their demands for their young talisman this summer. Why United have opted against submitting a bid for Sesko United have been credited with interest in Sesko, 22, on more than one occasion since the window opened, but their ongoing struggle to sanction any major permanent outgoings has left INEOS floundering at how they can sanction a striker’s arrival. Bundesliga insider Christian Falk claimed that Leipzig could accept a bid below Sesko’s £70m release clause, with £60.6m deemed enough to get a deal over the line. Still, though, this is likely to price United out of a move.
Kirk Cousins might be relegated to the job of backup quarterback, but he is showing veteran leadership to his Atlanta Falcons teammates. Following Sunday's practice, Cousins pulled aside rookie defensive end James Pearce to encourage the first-round pick after his fourth practice in the league at Flowery Branch, Georgia. "QB Kirk Cousins pulled aside Pearce after practice to compliment him on a pass batted down," wrote Marc Raimondi of ESPN. Cousins reportedly had a solid day of practice on Sunday, going 7-of-12 passing against the first-team unit. If Cousins wants out of Atlanta, he's not showing it at practice. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback is competing on the field and being a good teammate around the facility. Cousins' actions on the field backed up what Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot praised Cousins for before the team's practice on Sunday. “Outside, it's a lot more of a deal than it is in the building,” Fontenot said to the media about the idea of friction between the Falcons and Cousins, per video from D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He shows up, he does his job, just like anybody ... We've gotta build the best 70-man roster so we can go win games. "That's what we're focused on, and Kirk, just like all the other players, is focused on coming in here and doing their job. That's what he's been doing." Fontenot didn't dismiss the idea that Atlanta would trade Cousins before the season. He said the Falcons will do whatever it takes to make the team better, but stressed that Cousins has been a professional throughout the process of being replaced by Michael Penix Jr., a first-round pick from the 2024 draft. “In terms of making moves, whether it's trades or acquiring players, we're always looking at those factors," Fontenot said. "We're gonna do whatever we can do to make this team the best it can possibly be. But he's been a great professional, and he's handled himself well.” Cousins is coming to work in a manner that will make another owner want to take a chance on the veteran quarterback. That could be one of his best-selling points before he plays in his 13th season in the league.
With the trade for Ryan McMahon now complete, it would seem New York Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman has fulfilled one of his three priorities. He can now cross third base off the list, which leaves the rotation and bullpen as his remaining priorities. However, according to one Yankees writer, Cashman might not be done with the infield. Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reported this after the McMahon trade: “The Yankees may not be done adding to their infield. A team source said the Yankees are interested in adding a right-handed hitter who could play the infield.” Kirschner adds that the Yankees have had interest in Willi Castro and Amed Rosario. But the question now is, how would another player fit into the Yankees’ infield? Needless to say, Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. aren’t going anywhere, and McMahon is just getting there. That leaves the low-hanging fruit. Anthony Volpe has been at the center of controversy all this season. His 13 errors, many of which had come at make-or-break moments, amount to the second-highest total in the game. In addition, his bat has not been able to compensate, hitting .217/.288/.408 with 14 home runs. There was always a lot to like about Volpe. He won a Gold Glove in his rookie year, his power has always been promising and his speed is nothing to scoff at. Unfortunately, his glove has become a liability, and his speed has also produced very few results. Volpe has swiped just 10 bags in 17 attempts. His power is the one thing that still has some upside, but it hasn’t been enough to justify a spot in the lineup. Both Castro and Rosario have been far more productive at the plate this season than Volpe. Kirschner doesn’t clarify how serious the Yankees are in their pursuit of another infielder, but that most likely isn’t available information. Having just turned 24, Volpe could still become the type of player that was expected from him as a top prospect. However, his recent performance has weighed heavily on his team’s efforts, and it may be buying him a ticket out of the Bronx — or at least a spot on the bench.
Aaron Rodgers has managed to keep the identity of his new wife a secret, but the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is certainly not hiding his feelings about her. Rodgers spoke about his wife during an interview with NFL Network at Steelers training camp this week. The 41-year-old had no problem being candid about how thankful he is to have met the mystery woman. “When you meet the right one and you’re with the right one, your whole world changes in a second. To have that person that unconditionally loves you behind the scenes, there’s no better feeling in the world,” Rodgers said. “And I’ve got the most incredible wife. I just really love her. I’m so thankful to have her by my side at the end. When you have that stability and that rock behind you at the house, you feel like you can do anything.” Rodgers first revealed in an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” last December that he had a girlfriend named Brittani. We are unsure of the exact spelling of the woman’s name, but Rodgers specified that she was “Brittani with an ‘I’” when he brought it up. Then in April, Rodgers told “The Pat McAfee Show” that he was in a “serious relationship” and had some off-field things consuming him. He had left open the possibility of retiring at the time. Shortly after that, Rodgers was spotted wearing what appeared to be a wedding band on his left ring finger. The former MVP confirmed after signing with the Steelers that he has been married since earlier this year. Rodgers seems determined to have his wife’s identity remain a mystery, but he still wants everyone to know how important she is to his life.
