Rodrigo Bentancur believes Tottenham have added motivation to win the Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur have a fantastic chance of ending the season on a high. The Lilywhites are within touching distance of winning the Europa League and end the club’s 17-year long wait for a major trophy. Ange Postecoglou’s men have suffered a disastrous domestic campaign, but winning a European trophy would mean that all will be forgiven.

Spurs also have the chance of ensuring a place in the Champions League if they win the competition. However, the North London club cannot think too far ahead as they still have to play the second leg of the semi-finals against Bodo/Glimt. Ange’s men enjoyed a comprehensive 3-1 win in the first leg against the Norwegian side after putting in a dominating performance.

With one foot in the final, fans will hope that the Lilywhites manage to defend the two-goal lead when they travel to Norway for the return leg. The North London club might face the prospect of playing against Manchester United in the final, so Ange Postecoglou must make sure that his team do not suffer any new injuries as well.

Rodrigo Bentancur wants UEL glory for Tottenham’s injured pair

Tottenham are going to be without star players Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison for the rest of the season. The pair have been in amazing form for the Lilywhites but will not be able to help the team in the last stages of the Europa League. This has put a serious dent in Spurs’ hopes of winning the competition as both players are an instrumental part of Ange Postecoglou’s setup.

Rodrigo Bentancur has also reiterated that the squad wants to win the Europa League for the injured duo. The Uruguay international told Sky Sports,

“Of course, it’s a shame they are missing the game because you don’t play a European semi-final every year. But we are going to try and win it for them because they have been doing their best for the team all year. We feel sad for them, but the group is doing well, very focused, very committed and really looking forward to Thursday.”

Rodrigo Bentancur suggests that it is a shame that Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison are missing the crucial game against Bodo/Glimt. But the 27-year-old insisted that the other players are aiming to win the competition for them as both players have given everything to the team this season. Bentancur also pointed out that other players in the squad are capable of filling the creative void left behind by Maddison and Bergvall.

Spurs have a great chance of proving the critics wrong this season and do the unthinkable. The Lilywhites need to remain focused and Ange Postecoglou must make sure that his players do not get complacent. The Australian manager is under tremendous pressure to end the season on a high, and it is likely that he might lose his job at N17 even if Tottenham win a major trophy.
