Nathan Fogaca scored the tying goal less than a minute after coming on as a substitute as the Portland Timbers rallied for a 2-2 draw with the visiting Houston Dynamo on Saturday night.
Felipe Mora also scored and Evander had two assists for the Timbers (5-7-5, 20 points), who are 3-1-1 in their past five matches.
Coco Carrasquilla and Sebastian Kowalczyk scored for the Dynamo (6-6-4, 22 points) and Hector Herrera had two assists.
Kowalczyk appeared to score again in the 84th minute to put Houston ahead for a third time, but a video review determined teammate Ibrahim Aliyu was offside on the play.
The tying goal came in the 76th minute. Evander's free kick from about 35 yards out on the right wing found Fogaca for a header at the top of the 6-yard that went inside the far post.
Carrasquilla gave Houston a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute. He dribbled the ball down the right wing and played a give-and-go with Herrera. Carrasquilla took the return pass and put a low shot from just outside the top right of the 6-yard box past diving Portland goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.
The Dynamo opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Herrera's corner kick from the right wing found Ethan Bartlow about 10 yards out, but his shot was blocked. The rebound fell to Kowalczyk with his back to the net at the top of the 6-yard box. Kowalczyk spun and put a low shot under a charging Crepeau.
The Timbers tied the score on a counterattack in the 37th minute. Evander's pass from midfield sent Jonathan Rodriguez on a breakaway down the left wing. Rodriguez dribbled into the penalty area and, with two defenders converging, slipped a pass to a wide-open Mora at the top of the 6-yard box for a tap-in. It was Mora's team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Leeds United could end up with Tottenham Hotspur star Manor Solomon this summer Tottenham had a forgettable season last season in the Premier League, but did manage to win the Europa League to qualify for the Champions League in 2025/26. There was some spark early on under Ange Postecoglou, but as injuries mounted and form dropped, the team lost momentum in the Premier League. Some big names showed promise in 2024/25, but the squad balance was lacking. Then, in the summer, Thomas Frank was appointed as the new manager, who made a name for himself at Brentford with his clear tactics and stable game plan. Now Frank faces a big challenge: trimming down this huge squad and giving the club a new direction. Tottenham have spent money in this summer window. Meanwhile, there is a plethora of options, especially on the wings and in attacking midfield. With Son Heung-min still the leader, Richarlison, Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert are also competing in the same position; it seems necessary to remove some names from the squad. This is the backdrop for a player who already seems to be on the sidelines at the club. Leeds interest: Solomon back at Elland Road? TBR Football reporter Graeme Bailey has revealed that Leeds United still like Manor Solomon. He played a key role in winning the Championship on loan last season – hardly anyone will forget the winning goal against Plymouth on the last day. According to the report, Leeds are waiting to see if Solomon is not a priority in the Tottenham squad for the first few matches, so they can complete the deal for around £15 million. “I think there’s a very good chance after a couple of games once we get into the start of the season and Solomon sees he’s not first choice at Spurs and involved — I think we could see him at Leeds. “Leeds still like him an awful lot, I think there’s a very good chance Solomon still ends up at Elland Road. “For the sake of Leeds going for their second choice, they may as well hang on. They wanted Solomon and he’s not going to be particularly expensive. So I think he is in their minds.” Solomon is fast, plays direct and has the ability to surprise in big matches. Although injuries have slowed him down, he was in ‘unplayable’ mode at Leeds last season. On the left wing, the Israeli brings attacking momentum and a knack for stretching defences. However, at Tottenham, the 26-year-old is just not finding his place in the pack. Meanwhile, we reported earlier that even Burnley want him. Tottenham must move on In our opinion, Tottenham should sell Maynor Solomon. He didn’t get more than five league games last season, and his situation won’t change much under Thomas Frank. When you have options like Son, Richarlison, Tell, Odobert and Moore, keeping a fringe player doesn’t slim the squad or balance the budget. However, there were earlier reports that Spurs might be tempted to keep him. Leeds already know him, the fanbase loves him, and he has performed there. Selling him for £15m would be a smart decision. That would free up Tottenham for a little cash that could be invested in midfield or defence. Especially when they are playing in the Champions League, the squad needs players who can contribute every week. Solomon’s ability is undeniable, but he doesn’t fit in with the direction Tottenham are going. Ultimately, it’s time for both Tottenham and Solomon to move on.
Aaron Rodgers made his practice debut for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, and it was not necessarily a moment he will want to remember. Rodgers’ very first pass was intercepted by linebacker Patrick Queen. The quarterback was trying to find top target DK Metcalf on a curl route, but was not quite accurate enough. Rodgers will not lose any sleep over this. It is not the first interception he has thrown in a practice session and it will not be the last. It did make for some amusing viewing for critics, though, and even some Steelers fans got a chuckle out of it. The Steelers are hoping Rodgers can lift them to at least a playoff win in 2025. If he succeeds, he is in line for a pretty big payday, and might even be able to go out on a high note if this is in fact his final NFL season. The other bright side to Rodgers’ inauspicious start to his Pittsburgh career? It will probably make Giants rookie Jaxson Dart feel a little bit better about his own first pass.
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has stirred up a whirlwind, looking to fulfill his priority of bringing a frontline starter to New York. In his latest round of relentless phone calls, MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that Cashman spoke to San Diego Padres general manager, A.J. Preller, about two-time Cy Young candidate Dylan Cease. Cease has been a source of interest for MLB teams since 2022, when he pitched to a spectacular 2.20 ERA with 227 strikeouts in 184 innings, coming second in the Cy Young voting. Landing with the Padres last season, Cease again flashed potential, tossing to a 3.47 ERA with 224 strikeouts through 189.1 innings of work. That year, he placed fourth in Cy Young voting. But as much as Cease is talented, he is also flawed. In 2023, just after his best year, Cease posted a lackluster 4.58 ERA, and this season has been no better. Through 113.2 innings this year, Cease owns a 4.59 ERA with 144 strikeouts. Cease has been quite the strikeout artist since his debut, but the rest of his results haven’t always been that good. His 42 walks and 16 home runs surrendered on the year make him a risky bet. According to Heyman, the Yankees are one of four teams that have “checked in” on Cease. He notes that trading Cease is a long shot since the Padres are in contention, but they still may be inclined to do so as he is in the last year of his contract. One might also add that his performance this year probably won’t help them reach the World Series. For the Yankees, or any other interested team for that matter, dealing prospects or players for a slumping half-year rental might not be the best idea. Still, the Padres might just receive a decent haul for Cease since the market for spotless, front-line aces is non-existent at this trade deadline.
Mike Matheson may not be in the Montreal Canadiens’ long-term plans, but he fits the lineup now Dan Rosen of NHL.com: Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson has a year left on his contract and it still an important piece to their blue line. Lane Hutson will need a new deal after next season, and it could exceed Noah Dobson’s $9.5 million. Ivan Demidov will need a huge deal in two years. The Canadiens top four beyond next season will likely consist of Hutson and Kaiden Guhle on the left side and Dobson and David Reinbacher on the right. Right-handed Alexandre Carrier has two years left, and they have LHD of Jayden Struble (RFA) and Arber Xhakaj (one year away from RFA). NHLRumors: Rossi and Wild at Contract Impasse Potential trade destinations for Jason Robertson Ryan Dixon of Sportsnet: A look at seven teams that could be potential trade destinations for Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson. The 25-year-old Robertson carries a $7.75 million cap hit for one more season. He’ll be an RFA after next year and would be a UFA the following year. He doesn’t have any trade protection but does have some leverage if he were to indicate whether he’d sign an extension with a potential team acquiring him or not. Los Angeles Kings – Hometown team, and they could be looking to add more scoring. Immediate business for the Kings is that they need to re-sign RFA Alex Laferriere, and Adrian Kempe is extension-eligible. Carolina Hurricanes – Already signed Nikolaj Ehlers, but could use some more scoring. Could the Stars reacquire some of the picks they sent in the Mikko Rantanen deal? Washington Capitals – Would need to move out some salary, and could be some scoring insurance depending on Alex Ovechkin’s future. Additional scoring for next year would be welcomed. Columbus Blue Jackets – Would the Stars be interested in winger Dmitri Voronkov? The Blue Jackets made him available in Noah Dobson trade talks. Detroit Red Wings – The Red Wings may need to go the trade route to add scoring, as they weren’t even able to talk to UFAs they would have been interested in. Seattle Kraken – The Kraken could use some high-end scoring. Have the cap space and multiple first-round picks in the next two drafts. Utah Mammoth – If the Stars are looking for a current NHLer in the return, maybe Nick Schmaltz at $5.85 million could fit into their top-six. The Mammoth have three 2026 second-round picks and prospects as well.
