Andre Onana officially loses second manager in nine months

Andre Onana has endured a turbulent spell since Manchester United signed him from Inter Milan in 2023.

He arrived for around £47 million with a reputation as one of Europe’s best ball-playing goalkeepers and was expected to transform United’s build-up under Erik ten Hag.

Instead, his time at Old Trafford became defined by costly mistakes.

There were high-profile errors against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the Champions League, while other mistakes continued to damage confidence around him.

Onana eventually lost his place as United moved on and signed Senne Lammens.

He spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, where he at least enjoyed some success and was part of the side that won the Turkish Cup.

The Cameroon international then returned this summer for a second loan spell, this time with an option to buy.

However, another major change has now taken place around him.

Andre Onana sees another managerial departure

Trabzonspor have officially confirmed that head coach Fatih Tekke has left the club by mutual consent.

The Turkish side announced the decision in a statement on their official website after talks between Tekke and vice-president Serkan Kilic.

The departure came after Trabzonspor’s 2-1 defeat to Amedspor.

Onana actually saved a penalty during the game, but it was not enough to prevent another damaging result.

Tekke had previously offered his resignation following the 4-0 Europa League defeat to Ferencvaros, although the board initially rejected it.

That makes this another managerial exit connected to Onana in the space of nine months.

The first came in December, when Cameroon head coach Marc Brys was dismissed by FECAFOOT amid a chaotic dispute surrounding the national team.

Onana was caught directly in the middle of that situation after being left out of one Cameroon squad while Brys named him in another.

Now, less than a year later, the goalkeeper has seen another coach depart.

For Onana, the latest change adds yet more uncertainty to a career that has rarely been settled since leaving Inter Milan.
