Andre Onana has officially completed a return to Trabzonspor after Manchester United confirmed his departure on their website.
The Cameroon international was not considered part of United’s plans for the 2026/27 campaign and will now continue his career in Turkey.
Onana already spent last season with the Turkish side and enjoyed a highly successful spell.
The goalkeeper made 29 league appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, keeping six clean sheets and helping Trabzonspor lift the Turkish Cup.
His performances clearly left a lasting impression.
Manchester United’s goalkeeping department has undergone significant changes over the past year.
Following uncertainty surrounding Onana’s future, United moved quickly in the transfer market and signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
The Belgian goalkeeper has proven to be an outstanding addition at Old Trafford.
Lammens enjoyed a remarkable debut season and Premier League Signing of the Season award after a series of impressive displays between the posts.
With Lammens now firmly established as United’s first-choice goalkeeper, opportunities for Onana at Old Trafford appeared increasingly limited.
It has since emerged that the move has been completed on a loan basis, with Trabzonspor paying a fee to bring Onana back to the club for the upcoming campaign.
United said in a statement, “Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 season, subject to international clearance and registration.”
The move gives Andre Onana the opportunity to continue playing regular first-team football while rejoining a club where he previously enjoyed considerable success.
For Manchester United, the deal further streamlines the squad ahead of the new season as preparations continue under Michael Carrick.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 and went on to make more than 80 appearances for the club, winning both the FA Cup and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford.
It remains to be seen whether Onana still has a long-term future at Manchester United, but for now, the goalkeeper will once again be representing Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig.
