Ange Postecoglou is a dead man walking as Daniel Levy sharpens knives at Tottenham

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy appears to have already decided what will happen with Ange Postecoglou

The pressure is ramping up on Ange Postecoglou at White Hart Lane, with Tottenham Hotspur currently sitting in 14th position in the Premier League table, having lost 15 of their 29 matches this term.

The Australian tactician guided the club to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League last term. He had hoped to build on that and qualify for the Champions League in his second season in North London at least, which would have been tangible progress. The veteran boss will need to win the Europa League in order to avoid an embarrassing term for himself, club and the fans.

As it currently stands, the future of Ange Postecoglou is yet to be decided, although replacements are already being lined up. Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola is the No.1 target at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Fulham’s Marco Silva his alternative.

Big Ange’s side are currently focused on finishing the Premier League season on a high note as well as preparing for their Europa League quarter-final tie with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, despite what happens between now and the end of the season, there remains speculation surrounding Postecoglou’s future.

Thus, Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham feels a decision has already been made on Postecoglou, and even a Europa League trophy in May would not be enough to change his fate.

“Regardless of Spurs’ success in the Europa League, Postecoglou is under threat,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Therefore, that tells me that the writing is on the wall, and Tottenham will be making a managerial change this summer. The club obviously feel now is the right time to do that.

“Whatever happens between now and the end of the season will not be enough to keep Postecoglou in the job. If we were to win the Europa League, Postecoglou would be our most successful manager of the past four decades. As a result, that was quite a damning report on behalf of Postecoglou.”

Tottenham published financial accounts for the year that ended on 30 June 2024 at the start of this week. It was revealed that the club’s total revenue decreased by 4 per cent from the previous year. A big reason for this decrease was due to Spurs’ failure to qualify for Europe in the 2022/23 season.

Therefore, it makes an absolute necessity for Ange to win the Europa League trophy—perhaps the only outcome which will allow him to keep his job and continue the project at N17. While Wenham thinks the writing is already on the wall for the Greek-Aussie tactician, we feel the continental success in May will force Levy’s hand to give Ange another season at our club.
