Ange Postecoglou’s ‘not a big club’ claim about Tottenham sees repost from 10 G/A Spurs forward

Ange Postecoglou recently took a swipe at the state of Tottenham as a club.

While the sacking of Thomas Frank was not enough, his predecessor Ange Postecoglou had to be part of this impeccable timing to be sitting with the duo of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on the Stick to Football podcast.

And his explosive comments about his time at Tottenham, the players he preferred to sign whilst in charge at Hotspur Way and the overall ambition of the club have turned into a fallout at N17.

And that fallout has taken new twists, as 10 G/A Lilywhites striker Richarlison has reposted a clip on his social media account where the former Lilywhites boss is speaking on the aforementioned podcast. In the club, Postecoglou is speaking on how the famous ‘To Dare is to Do’ motto is against the Lilywhites’ actions.

The Brazilian shared this clip (h/t The Spurs Express on X) with a caption, ‘Fair play Ange’, with series of claps following the writing. This is a clear show of how the striker is publicly backing the former head coach.

So what did Ange exactly say?

In the clip the Australian tactician was discussing how Tottenham have world-class facilities, but their speaking and wage structure are nowhere near what would take them to be genuine heavyweights.

He was speaking about how the world-class facilities and infrastructure at Hotspur Way are not in line with the financial commitment that the club makes in the transfer market, especially when you compare that with their Arsenal, which tells a completely different story.

Author Opinion

While it is only a social media post in itself, the context matters. Right now Tottenham are in a bit of turmoil with no gaffer at the helm, all whilst sitting dangerously close to that drop zone in the Premier League and without a win in the English top tier in the ongoing calendar year.

So for Richy to come out and report those comments from Ange means that the dressing room at N17 agrees to those frustrations. In a way it also shows the amount of respect that the former Nottingham Forest manager still commands among a few members in the Lilywhites roster despite his chaotic second season at Tottenham ending with him being shown out the door.

This is quite true in a sense; a lot of Tottenham supporters will agree with what Ange has to say given that the fans have felt quite similar frustrations to what the Australian is talking about. But how big of an impact will it have on tactical operations at Hotspur Way?
