It is now an open secret that Tottenham are looking to replace Ange Postecoglou once the season ends. The Lilywhites have endured an embarrassing domestic campaign, and there should be no doubt that the ex-Celtic boss needs to face the sack in the summer. The North London club is languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, registering 21 league losses this season.
Ange’s men are well on their way to record the club’s lowest ever points tally in a single Premier League season this year. The fans have also grown tired of the mediocrity on display and many have called for Big Ange’s sack. The Europa League campaign has acted as the saving grace for the Spurs manager, as the Lilywhites have the chance of winning the competition and qualify for Champions League football next season.
The North London club has exceeded all expectations and managed to do the unthinkable. They are now withing touching distance of ending the club’s long-standing trophy drought. Winning the Europa League would also mean that European silverware would head back to N17 after 41 years.
Daniel Levy has already started looking at potential managers that could replace Ange Postecoglou at the helm for next season. It was reported earlier that Levy would sack Big Ange once the season ended, irrespective of the outcome in the Europa League final. It looks like that still stands true as Spurs are linked heavily with a move for Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.
But now, the Lilywhites have faced a massive blow in their efforts to sign the Austrian manager. As per The Telegraph, Oliver Glasner is set to snub Tottenham and extend his stay at Crystal Palace. The 50-year-old led the Eagles to their first ever major trophy last weekend as they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup Final. Now Palace are confident that Glasner would extend his stay at Selhurst Park for the foreseeable future and continue his project.
After several managerial links in recent weeks, Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish put an end to the transfer saga involving Oliver Glasner. Parish directly told the media that the Austrian would remain in South London next season after a successful campaign. The Palace owner also suggested that Glasner was open to stay and wanted to know the direction of the club before committing his future at Selhurst Park.
Daniel Levy will now have to look at other managerial targets to takeover the reigns at N17. The Lilywhites are linked with a move for Fulham boss Marco Silva, and it is believed that the Portuguese is keen to move to North London after rejecting a contract extension at Craven Cottage. Another manager that is linked with the Spurs job is former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli.
Fans will hope that the right decision is taken regarding the managerial job at N17. Ange Postecoglou’s race is run at Spurs, but the Australian still has the chance of ending the season on a high and deliver a major trophy before heading for pastures new in the summer.
