Football can turn in a matter of minutes, and for Antony, it did exactly that.

The former Manchester United winger found himself at the centre of chaos in Seville this weekend, experiencing the full emotional spectrum in a single afternoon.

From stunning opener to heated confrontation, it was a reminder of how thin the line can be between hero and villain.

Antony had given Real Betis fans something to celebrate early on.

The Brazilian, who made his move to Spain after a turbulent spell at Old Trafford, produced a moment of genuine quality to open the scoring against fierce rivals Sevilla.

An acrobatic overhead kick, his 11th goal of the season, sent the Estadio Benito Villamarin into raptures as he sprinted towards the corner flag to celebrate.

When Alvaro Fidalgo doubled the advantage before half-time, Betis looked in complete control.

But derbies rarely follow a script.

After the break, momentum swung dramatically.

Former Arsenal and United forward Alexis Sanchez pulled one back before Isaac Romero struck again, wiping out the two-goal cushion and leaving the home crowd furious at the final whistle.

As tensions simmered, Antony appeared to try and calm the situation.

The 26-year-old approached the Betis supporters, perhaps attempting to show unity in a difficult moment.

Instead, things escalated.

He jumped over the advertising boards and became involved in a shouting exchange with a group of frustrated fans.

The confrontation grew heated enough that team-mate Cucho Hernandez and security staff had to intervene, guiding him away from the stand.

It was a dramatic ending to what had begun as a personal high point.

After the match, Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini attempted to steady the mood.

“We’re just as frustrated as the fans are.”

Antony’s journey in Spain has been something of a reset.

After his £85 million move to Manchester United in 2022 failed to live up to expectations, he initially joined Betis on loan in January 2025 before the La Liga side made the switch permanent in the summer for around £19 million.

On the pitch, there have been flashes of the player United once invested so heavily in.

Off it, moments like this show that passion can sometimes spill over.

From a spectacular overhead kick to being ushered away by security, it was a derby day Antony won’t forget in a hurry.
