It’s no secret that we need a shake up in every single department of the club, most notably at the very top in the boardroom, which is in need of a complete and radical overhaul this summer…
Many of the current directors at the club are not fit for purpose, due to their old and outdated methods, with one of their main problems being their inability to communicate with the most important aspect of the club, and that of course is the supporters.
This board are so far apart in terms of what the club means to the supporters, that it has become something of a chasm, and one that will never ever be bridged whilst the current Board remains in power.
We need new senior executives, with fresh ideas, figures with competent business minds, and just as crucially, ones who are willing to form a positive relationship with the Celtic supporters. The current crop’s distain for the supporters is the root cause of the club’s current disharmony.
One such move that should be seriously considered by any new administration should be to appoint a fan representative onto the Celtic board. It’s not a new idea, it’s one that several top clubs have already introduced, and it’s one that would be very welcome indeed from a Celtic supporter’s perspective.
We can all think of numerous potential candidates and a shortlist should be drawn up as to who would sit on the board and act as a representative of the Celtic support, and in doing so making sure we have our voices heard loud and clear.
It’s a worn out cliche, but Celtic is more than just a football club, it’s one big family, and like all individuals in a family, we fully deserve for our thoughts and opinions to be heard and respected.
Having supporter representation in a new and improved boardroom is something that should be under consideration, and would go a long way towards uniting the club and supporters. While lip service might be paid to this idea by the current board, they have already stated that they are looking at it, it’s my guess that it will be kicked into the long grass. They are a group resistant to change and that’s a huge part of their failings.
It’s unlikely that the Celtic support, now represented by the Celtic Fans Collective with over 400 Celtic organisations and groups as members, will tolerate the status quo for much longer. We need new ideas, a new outlook and a new relationship between the Celtic support and those entrusted with running our football club.
The support will be prepared to wait to see out this season and to back the team – and with that in mind the return of the Green Brigade is absolutely essential – but come the summer things must start to happen and changes have to be implemented.
That’s the same whether we win a double, one trophy or nothing at all. It’s time for Celtic to change. Embrace it and be better for it.
