Arne Slot said what Liverpool fans already knew about Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike

Liverpool blew up the entire Premier League transfer market this past summer by not only signing German phenom Florian Wirtz, but also landing not one but two big fish at the striker position in Hugo Ekitike and then Alexander Isak to close the transfer window.

Isak has yet to really take off due to continued fitness issues after holding out of training in order to leave Newcastle for Anfield, but Ekitike has been one of the team’s top performers to start the season.

Before Isak and Ekitike started playing this season, there were questions from fans about how the two star strikers would co-exist, and while we’ve yet to see this problem truly unfold due to Isak’s injury woes, Kopites aren’t worried.

Let Arne Slot take over, as here is how he explained his vision for both Ekitike and Isak working together at a recent press conference:

“I don’t think they are that similar, they have similar qualities but also different qualities. Hugo [Ekitike] could also play off the left in my opinion, or maybe around Alex [Isak], where Alex is more of an out and out number nine. He’s the finisher of the attacks. Could drop into midfield but Hugo is maybe more a player that also likes to drop more in spaces coming off the left. Alex, I think prefers to be in the middle.”

Liverpool fans will agree with this wholeheartedly. Isak and Ekitike may both be strikers, but they could not be more different stylistically, which is a big reason why there is a lot of hope that the two will co-exist wonderfully well.

Ekitike is more of the all-arounder and more likely to split wide on the wings, competing with Cody Gakpo for minutes. Meanwhile, Isak stays in the middle and finishes off the great chances that Gakpo, Wirtz, Ekitike, and Mohamed Salah create for him.
