Julian Alvarez is once again being linked with a high-profile move, with Arsenal understood to be monitoring the Atletico Madrid forward’s situation closely. The Argentine striker only arrived in the Spanish capital in 2024 following a major move from Manchester City, but his future is already being discussed amid interest from several top clubs.

Arsenal’s interest is closely tied to sporting director Andrea Berta, who was instrumental in bringing Alvarez to Atletico before his move to north London. Berta is believed to retain strong connections at the Wanda Metropolitano and maintains a close working relationship with Alvarez’s representatives, a factor that could prove significant if negotiations were to open.

While Alvarez is protected by an extremely high release clause, there is a growing belief across Europe that Atletico could listen to offers well below that figure if a substantial bid arrives this summer. Arsenal are assessing whether a major investment in the region of £90–100 million would be justified as Arteta looks to add a proven, versatile forward capable of leading the line or operating across the front three.

Any deal would represent one of the biggest transfers in Arsenal’s history, underlining the scale of ambition at the Emirates as the club look to take the next step domestically and in Europe.
