Following a crushing 3-0 loss to defending Premier League champions Manchester City, Arsenal were handed injury to insult when they learned defender Pablo Mari won't play again this season due to a serious ankle injury.
The Athletic's David Ornstein reported the news on Thursday. Per Ornstein, midfielder Granit Xhaka will also miss time because of a bad ankle.
Arsenal have lost Pablo Mari for rest of season with serious ankle ligament/tendon injury suffered in defeat at Man City, may need surgery. Granit Xhaka also picked up an ankle problem but may return before campaign ends. Rob Holding in contention for Brighton @TheAthleticUK #AFC

Mari started for the Gunners in their first match since the coronavirus pandemic halted seasons around the world in mid-March, but his bad ankle forced him off the pitch halfway through the first half versus City.
David Luiz replaced Mari and had a nightmare showing. Luiz gifted Raheem Sterling with a tap-in goal before the break via a costly error, was shown red five minutes into the second half, and awarded City with a penalty that was cooly deposited by Kevin De Bruyne.
