Tottenham face a big battle to land Atalanta star Ademola Lookman in the summer following the entry of Arsenal

A lot of talk around Tottenham Hotspur at the moment is about potential exits, with Ange Postecoglou’s future at White Hart Lane uncertain. In addition, several high-profile stars could leave the club this summer, such as Cristian Romero, Richarlison and Rodrigo Bentancur.

However, as well as departures, news is now emerging of players whom the Lilywhites could target when the transfer window reopens in June. Over the last few weeks and months, the N17-based outfit have been linked with several wingers across Europe. This may be down to the fact that the club bosses are planning to reinforce the wide department.

Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has been among the players to have caught Spurs’ attention. It is not surprising because the African star has reinvigorated his career in Italy since arriving at Atalanta in the summer of 2022 from RB Leipzig.

The 27-year-old will leave La Dea at the end of the season after three strong years. Ademola Lookman was the star in Atalanta’s Europa League success last term, scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. He has been among the Serie A side’s standout players this term as well, netting 19 goals and supplying seven assists in 38 games across all competitions.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s club have learned that they will face one big challenger in their attempts to sign the Nigerian international. According to reliable Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal have added Lookman to their shopping list for the summer. The Gunners are part of a long queue of teams looking to secure the services of the Atalanta star during the summer transfer window.

Lookman is eyeing a return to the Premier League, having previously played for Everton, Fulham and Leicester City. He could not cut the mustard in the Premier League then, but after maturity as a player and at the peak of his powers, the Wandsworth-born talent perhaps is seeking a move back to England for his next challenge.

Meanwhile, Arsenal joining the race for Lookman is a big blow for Tottenham. Unlike Spurs, Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed another strong Premier League season and are still fighting in the Champions League. Sadly, but true, they are a better side than Spurs, and the lure of Champions League football next season could entice Lookman if it comes down to the North London duo.

That being said, the least Ange’s side could do is win the Europa League and clinch Champions League qualification in the process. This would give us some hope to beat our bitterest North London rivals to the signing of Lookman.
