Despite plenty of promise, Arsenal ended the 2024/25 season without a major trophy, falling short in the Premier League behind eventual champions Liverpool and losing 3-1 to Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. The Gunners have already strengthened ahead of the new season, and Fabrizio Romano reports that the club has made progress in their talks with Ethan Nwaneri.
Arsenal have already been active this summer, with Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga all making moves to the Emirates. It appears Noni Madueke will also be joining the club, with Romano giving his trademark “Here We Go” on that deal.
These signings will help improve the Gunners’ strength in depth ahead of the coming campaign. The club will also be eager to keep hold of all their key players, and Nwaneri has been linked with a move away due to concerns over game time, with Chelsea reportedly interested.
It now appears Mikel Arteta’s team are edging closer to signing the “phenomenal talent,” with the recent update from Romano confirming Arsenal have made progress in talks over a new deal for the highly regarded 18-year-old. The club have presented their long-term vision for the player and are hopeful of receiving the green light to finalise the agreement.
Arsenal will be eager to retain Nwaneri and rightfully so. The 18-year-old prospect is a huge talent who has a plethora of key attributes. His movement is top class, how he creates space to receive the ball in all areas.
He’s impressive with the ball at his feet, able to beat a player or pick out a key pass. He’s also defensively aware, tracking opposition runners and helping to nullify danger. Nwaneri is a wise head on young shoulders. He’s a wonderful talent, but it feels there is so much more to come.
