On October 1, Arsenal will play host to Olympiacos at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League. The Gunners will be eager to make it two wins out of two, while the Greek side drew 0-0 against Pafos in their matchday 1 fixture. Looking ahead to matchday 2, we bring you the Arsenal predicted lineup for this 20:00 kick-off.
Mikel Arteta’s favoured 4-3-3 formation is working well, with the Gunners impressing for large parts of the match against Manchester City, before Gabriel Martinelli scored a last-gasp equaliser to earn them a point. The win against Port Vale saw Arsenal make several changes before Arteta named a strong team to face Newcastle. The formation at St James’ Park resembled more of a 4-2-3-1.
David Raya started in goal, with a back four of Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Cristhian Mosquera. In midfield, it was Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, with Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, and Bukayo Saka supporting Viktor Gyokeres.
Arsenal Recent Form and Tactics
Despite the narrow defeat to Liverpool and the draw with Manchester City, it’s been a good start for Arteta’s men. Martin Zubimendi has slotted into Arteta’s team with ease and impressed since his arrival this summer.
The team appears to be coming together nicely, with Eze providing Arteta another option in forward areas. It feels like there are plenty of goals to come from Gyokeres, and once Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are back from injury, the competition for places will be fierce at the Emirates.
In the pre-match press conference, Arteta addressed whether Martin Odegaard would start and said:
“He was very good [against Newcastle], he came on and immediately you could see the desire and the responsibility to get in the game, to try to change it. His decision making, the way he approached every ball and he made a difference to help us win the game.”
When asked how Gyokeres is performing in the central attacking role in place of Kai Havertz:
“In a really natural, organic way, I would say. He’s a really confident boy. His work ethic is incredible. The demands that he puts on himself every single day. It’s a joy to work with him. He gives so much to the team, and the ceiling is very, very far, but he can still give to the team, so I’m very happy with him,” said Arteta.
