Arsenal vs Bournemouth player ratings – Lacklustre performance reflected in ratings

Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth yesterday following another lacklustre performance at the Emirates. Here are the player ratings:

David Raya – 5.0
He needs to work with his defenders on how to handle set pieces, and Bournemouth applied considerable pressure on him.

Ben White – 4.5
He struggled against Milos Kerkez and Dango Ouattara, who often combined effectively to pin him back.

William Saliba – 5.5
On a day when Arsenal’s vulnerability at set pieces was evident, questions were raised about his resilience.

Jakub Kiwior – 5.0
He has performed well in recent weeks, but this time he found it difficult as Evanilson regularly escaped his marking.

Myles Lewis-Skelly – 6.0
His ability to beat Bournemouth’s press made him stand out, though Arsenal’s issues with defending set pieces persist.

Declan Rice – 7.0
He was the only player who truly impressed, and it appears his future role may lie further forward on the pitch.

Thomas Partey – 6.5
He provided the expected defensive cover, but the two Bournemouth goals undermined his contributions.

Martin Odegaard – 6.5
Odegaard delivered an improved display, though he was unable to break down the Bournemouth defence once Arsenal fell behind.

Gabriel Martinelli – 6.5
He was active throughout and kept the attack lively, but he opted for an assist when he should have taken the shot himself.

Leandro Trossard – 5.0
He continues to show why he may not be the reliable option Arsenal need as their number nine.

Bukayo – 5.5
This was a disappointing performance from Saka. It is hoped he is reserving his best for the PSG clash.

Substitutes

Mikel Merino – 5.5
He was introduced to increase Arsenal’s attacking threat, but made little impact.

Raheem Sterling – N/A
Oleksandr Zinchenko – N/A
Ethan Nwaneri – N/A

Report: Clubs scrambling for Tottenham sensation who has wowed Thomas Frank during pre-season

Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Vuskovic has done quite well since arriving at the London club, and his performances have been quite impressive in preseason. According to The Daily Mail, Thomas Frank is impressed with his performances during pre-season, but he will have to decide on the defender’s future soon. Several Bundesliga clubs are interested in signing the 18-year-old defender on loan. Luka Vuskovic needs game time He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and Tottenham will not be able to provide him with that opportunity. They have multiple defenders ahead of him in the pecking order, and it would be wise of the London club to send him out on loan so that he can continue his development with regular game time. Moving to the Bundesliga could be ideal for him. Several Premier League players have moved to the Bundesliga and developed into tremendous assets. There is no reason why the 18-year-old cannot improve with regular football in Germany as well. Vuskovic should leave on loan It remains to be seen what Tottenham decide over the next few days. They must prioritise the development of the young defender at this stage of his career. Sitting on the bench at Tottenham will not benefit him. It will be detrimental to his development. Meanwhile, the young defender will look to play regularly as well. If a suitable loan deal can be agreed upon, it could be a tempting opportunity for him. He will look to establish himself as a key player for Tottenham in future, and he needs to play more often in order for that to happen. The 18-year-old will look to hit the ground running in Germany if the transfer goes through this summer. He will also hope to return to Tottenham as a better player next summer.

Yankees manager provides major update on Aaron Judge's injury

New York Yankees star Aaron Judge missed Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with an elbow injury, and the slugger is now headed to the injured list. The Yankees fell 9-4 to the Phillies on Saturday at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y., which marked their third consecutive loss. Judge played in Friday night's 12-5 loss to Philadelphia, but Aaron Boone announced before Saturday's game that Judge was dealing with an "elbow issue" and would sit out. Following his team's latest loss, Boone shared some new information about Judge's injury. Judge has been diagnosed with a flexor strain, but the Yankees believe he can return in less than two weeks. When Judge returns to the lineup, Boone said it will initially be as a designated hitter. Judge is having an outstanding season. He entered Saturday batting .342, which is the best mark in baseball. The reigning American League MVP has 37 home runs, 85 RBI and a 1.160 OPS. The Yankees are now six games behind the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays and fighting to remain atop the wild-card race. It goes without saying that they are hopeful Judge will be able to return as soon as possible.

Browns make curious decision with rookie QB Shedeur Sanders

The Cleveland Browns are giving Shedeur Sanders special treatment in training camp, but it's not the type of favoritism the fifth-round pick would necessarily want. Per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN, Sanders is the only Browns quarterback who has not been taking reps with the first-team offense during OTAs or the first two practices of training camp. Former Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick Kenny Pickett, veteran Joe Flacco and rookie Dillon Gabriel have all split reps with the first team. Despite being asked to throw passes to members of the equipment staff amid a shortage of professional pass-catchers for a four-quarterback roster, Sanders said he's thankful for the opportunity to show the Browns coaching staff his talents. "I feel like that it's not in my control, so I'm not going to think about that or even have that in my thought process of why it is," Sanders said to a question as to why he's not getting first-team reps. "There's a lot of people who want to have the opportunity to be at this level, and I'm here and I'm thankful to have the opportunity. So, whenever that is, that is." Sanders, 23, believes that he can contribute more to the Browns than what the coaching staff is asking of him. "It doesn't make me feel down or left out because I know who I am as a person," Sanders said. "I know who I am as an individual and I know what I could bring to this team. So, I can never feel less than any circumstance." The Browns selected Sanders with the No. 144 pick in April's draft. As a player whom many draft analysts thought was a first-round talent, Cleveland took what could be the steal of the draft in the fifth round. It's curious why the Browns aren't giving Sanders a shot with the first team early in training camp before the quarterback race becomes more serious. Cleveland should absolutely see what Sanders has to offer this summer. Flacco, 40, isn't a long-term solution at the position. Pickett failed in Pittsburgh. The Browns need to gauge what rookies Gabriel and Sanders can do with the first team. Having Sanders throw balls to the equipment staff is a waste of everyone's time. But then again, Cleveland has wasted plenty of quarterbacks.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh makes history with 40th home run

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh clubbed his 40th home run of the season on Saturday night against the Los Angeles Angels, not only extending his major league lead but also making him the first player in baseball to reach the 40-home run mark this season. It also helped him make some history. With his 40th home run, Raleigh became both the first catcher and the first switch-hitter in baseball history to reach the 40 home run mark before the end of July. Here is a look at his 40th home run. He is already in the process of having one of the best seasons ever for a Mariners player, and also one of the best seasons ever for a catcher, for any team. Especially when you add in his defense, where he is one of the best defensive catchers in the league. His only serious competition for the American League MVP Award remains New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. But with Judge sidelined for a period of time now due to an elbow injury, it might open the door for Raleigh to really put himself in the lead for that award.
