Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak have had two very intriguing starts to the season for their respective clubs.
The 26-year-old striker has only managed two goal contributions across all competitions since making the £125 million move to Anfield, and Newcastle United fans still have not forgotten how the transfer saga played out.
With no pre-season under his belt, he has struggled to hit top form. And a recent groin injury has only made things worse for the Sweden international.
Many would argue that Gyokeres has adapted more effectively, having netted five goals across all competitions for Arsenal. Still, similar to several of the Reds’ recent acquisitions this season, he has largely underperformed in most Premier League matches.
Both players are expected to find their feet as the season goes on, but for Arne Slot’s side, they really need their big signing to start delivering sooner rather than later.
Even though his time at Liverpool has not started the way he had hoped, Isak should still be considered among the top strikers today. His consistency in front of goal at Newcastle showed what he is capable of.
At just 26 years old, he still has much to prove before he can be considered among the all-time greats in the sport. It is premature to rank him alongside those who have already solidified their legacies.
So, when tasked with ranking a mix of past and present strikers in a top 10 list, Gyokeres found it challenging.
The Gunners forward put his international teammate in 10th place and was quick to apologise for it.
Gyokeres explained on Ballon d’Or TikTok page: “Oh my god. I have to put him tenth. Sorry Alexander you’re not tenth but my ranking was not as planned as you know. I have to put you here for now but I’ll change it after.”

While many fans would have liked him higher up the list, names above him included stars like Robert Lewandowski.
The Arsenal striker also ended up putting himself in joint 10th place alongside Isak by the end.
Isak’s move to Liverpool has not gone smoothly, especially after how things played out during the transfer window. But there is still plenty of time for things to turn around.
Now that he is getting closer to full fitness, there are clear signs from his career so far that he will be a strong addition once he gets settled in.
One thing that stands out compared to his time at Newcastle is that the play does not always go through him right now.
Whether it is down to him adapting or Slot making adjustments, it seems inevitable that his ability will eventually shine through for Liverpool.
