Artur Boruc has given new Celtic recruit, Maik Nawrocki his Celtic blessing as his fellow countryman looks to forge a career in Scottish football. The former Hoops stopper had a wonderful few years in the green and white and now Nawrocki will look to have the same sort of impact as the Holy Goalie.

Boruc was a cult figure during his stay at Celtic Park and had an excellent summary of his time at Celtic on The Celtic Star yesterday.

and the Bhoys masses loved him for not only his tremendous shot-stopping and general goalkeeping abilities, but his antics as well. Never a dull moment with big Artur, he was truly one of our own and was never shy in defending the culture and history which surrounded both Celtic and himself.

Both Nawrocki and Boruc played together for a brief spell before the ‘keeper retired at Legia Warsaw and the former fans’ favourite at Parkhead wishes Maik all the success in the world as he embarks on his new footballing adventure. Speaking to The Sunday Post (print edition), he said: “It’s very unfortunate that Maik is injured right now. But I think he can be very successful for Celtic.

“He has had a good upbringing in football, from his early days in Germany right through. He reads the game well and is composed on the ball. He can also tackle. He has been involved in many of the Polish international set-ups and can go further. I wish him well at Celtic and think he will do very well. I hope he is back from injury soon and can help the club bring success this season.”

It is very unfortunate that Maik got that injury when he did at Rugby Park in the League Cup, as he would almost certainly have been the first-choice pick centre-back along with Cameron Carter-Vickers. That relationship won’t have a chance to develop though for a good while now as Maik isn’t expected back until around Novemeber time. It’s such a shame for Maik that he can’t show the Celtic supporters what he can do but in time, I’m sure he will.
