Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi could make as many as seven changes to the starting eleven for tomorrow’s match against Benfica.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, predict a “revolution” in terms of squad rotation for the Champions League group stage clash.
Inter face their fifth match of their Champions League group stage tomorrow evening in Lisbon.
It is not as though there will be no stakes. The Nerazzurri are still battling Real Sociedad for top spot in the group. And Benfica still have a hope of Europa League qualification despite their dismal start.
But there’s no doubt that tomorrow’s match takes a back seat to Serie A for Inter.
The Nerazzurri fought out a 1-1 draw away to Juventus at the top of the table over the weekend.
That match naturally took a fair bit out of the squad. Inzaghi used his strongest available team in that match.
Then, next Sunday, things don’t get much easier for Inter.
The Nerazzurri travel to Campania to face reigning Italian champions Napoli.
As such, Tuttosport report, Inzaghi will heavily rotate tomorrow evening.
Starting in goal, Emil Audero could get his first start for Inter tomorrow.
The 26-year-old joined the Nerazzurri on loan from Sampdoria during the summer.
But fellow new arrival Yann Sommer has played every minute so far in all competitions.
However, tomorrow could be Audero’s chance to shine.
In defense, Tuttosport report that Stefan de Vrij will keep his place in the centre of the back three from Sunday’s match against Juventus.
But Federico Dimarco could drop into the backline to replace Francesco Acerbi. And Matteo Darmian will move to wingback – Yann Bisseck could get his second consecutive start in Europe.
Meanwhile, in midfield Kristjan Asllani and Davide Frattesi should start. They’ll take the places of Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicolo Barella respectively.
Even Davy Klaassen could replace Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
On the left Carlos Augusto will start.
And in attack, there is no question that Marko Arnautovic will start. He could pair with captain Lautaro Martinez, but alternatively, even Alexis Sanchez could start if fit.
