Aston Villa make move to sign Joshua Zirkzee

Joshua Zirkzee’s future at Manchester United has come under fresh scrutiny amid growing uncertainty surrounding the Dutch forward.

There has already been plenty of transfer business connecting Manchester United and Aston Villa this summer, with Youri Tielemans making the move from Villa Park to Old Trafford.

Villa have also looked towards players with United connections when strengthening their own squad, recently signing former Red Devils academy star Alejandro Garnacho.

Zirkzee could now become another name involved in business between the two Premier League clubs.

The 25-year-old joined Manchester United from Bologna in 2024 after an impressive spell in Serie A, signing a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

He previously represented Bayern Munich, Parma and Anderlecht before establishing himself in Italy.

However, his second season in Manchester proved difficult.

Zirkzee made only 26 appearances across all competitions during 2025/26, scoring twice and providing one assist, having featured 49 times the previous campaign.

That lack of regular football has contributed to speculation over his future, with Juventus and Napoli among the clubs linked with taking him back to Serie A.

Earlier today, another major development emerged surrounding Zirkzee, with a Premier League rival now exploring the possibility of signing him.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed on his YouTube channel that Aston Villa have made a move for Zirkzee.

According to the transfer expert, Villa made a call to understand the Manchester United forward’s situation regarding a potential deal.

The approach appears to be exploratory at this stage rather than a formal offer, with Villa looking to establish the conditions surrounding a possible transfer before deciding whether to advance their interest.

Zirkzee therefore has another potential option for his future as the transfer window enters its closing stages.

Manchester United will now have a decision to make should Villa turn their initial approach into something more concrete, while the forward’s future remains one to watch heading towards deadline day.
