Jadon Sancho’s situation has become one of the clearest examples of how sharply his career trajectory has shifted since leaving Borussia Dortmund.
The winger is still searching for stability after a hugely expensive but ultimately underwhelming spell at Manchester United.
Sancho joined United from Dortmund in July 2021 for an initial fee of around £73 million, arriving with elite-level numbers behind him after producing 53 goals and 67 assists in 158 appearances for the Bundesliga club.
That output never translated consistently at Old Trafford, where Sancho managed 12 goals and six assists across 82 appearances in all competitions, struggling for form, confidence, and tactical clarity.
His subsequent loan move to Aston Villa was intended to reset his career, but it has instead raised further doubts, with Sancho failing to impose himself as a decisive figure on the right wing.
He’s produced a limited end product and drawn criticism for his body language and reaction to substitutions recently.
The contrast with his Dortmund peak has been stark, with Villa yet to see the explosive one-on-one winger who once dominated Bundesliga defences, while United continues to carry the financial burden and squad-planning consequences of his stalled development.
Villa’s decision to move permanently for a young right-sided winger now appears significant, effectively signalling that Sancho is not part of their long-term plans for that position.
Aston Villa have confirmed the arrival of highly rated Brazilian teenager Alysson, completing the signing of the 19-year-old from Grêmio, which they announced officially on their website.
The dynamic winger developed through the youth ranks in Porto Alegre before breaking into the senior side, making his first-team debut in July 2024.
His rapid rise saw him establish himself as a consistent presence in Grêmio’s lineup, featuring 34 times in league competition last season and underlining his status as one of the club’s standout young talents.
With Sancho’s contract still running and his wages remaining substantial, United may soon be forced back into the same problem they hoped the Villa loan would resolve.
