Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino is set for yet another spell on the sidelines after suffering a new injury to his hamstring, the club have confirmed.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Palomino has suffered a first-degree lesion to his right hamstring. A specific timeline for his recovery has not yet been established, but it is believed he will be unavailable to Gian Piero Gasperini for several weeks.

Palomino has missed the vast majority of the 2023-24 campaign with hamstring issues. In fact, he has only managed 23 minutes of Serie A action this season split across four substitute appearances.

The 34-year-old had been looking at making a come-back in recent weeks, featuring at the end of matches against Roma and Udinese, and against Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, but he was ruled out of Atalanta’s most recent fixture against Lazio, a 3-1 win, on Sunday.

In other news for Atalanta’s defensive line, Isak Hien trained individually on Tuesday as he continues his comeback from his recent hamstring injury.

Teun Koopmeiners, meanwhile, trained individually as well for the most part on Tuesday, but was able to join in for parts of Atalanta’s group session.
