Atalanta president Luca Percassi has confirmed that Ademola Lookman wants to join Inter Milan at all costs.
During his latest interview via FCInterNews, Percassi admitted the Nigerian has set his heart on moving to San Siro.
Negotiations between Atalanta and Inter Milan have been lengthy and exhausting.
However, the deal is on the horizon.
Yesterday, the Nerazzurri submitted an official bid for Ademola Lookman, worth €45 million.
Meanwhile, Atalanta were hoping to earn €50 million from the 27-year-old’s imminent departure.
Yet, after failing to convince the player to stay, they find themselves backed into a corner.
Therefore, Inter’s hopes of sealing the deal have grown exponentially.
Moreover, the official confirmation could arrive in the coming days, with Inter keen to put an end to this saga as quickly as possible.
Percassi has driven a hard bargain, but his efforts could be in vain.
Indeed, Lookman looks determined to force his transfer to San Siro.
Furthermore, he has turned down Atalanta’s desperate attempt to tie him down to a new deal.
They were even ready to outmatch Inter’s contract offer to change his mind but to no avail.
“Ademola has been expressing his desire to leave for some time now,” Percassi said. “I’m not revealing any secret.
“In all our planning, he was the player expected to depart, as selling one player per year is part of our philosophy.
“However, the transfer market brings unexpected situations, and you all know what happened with Retegui.
“As for Ademola, despite plenty of interest, there had been nothing concrete – until yesterday, when Inter’s offer arrived.
“They’re a club we have an excellent relationship with. I saw Marotta at the league meeting – we have a great rapport – and in the coming days, we will calmly assess the offer.
“But Atalanta alone decides the timing and terms of any sale.
“Retegui wasn’t part of our initial plans to let go, as he only joined recently. As I said, the offer for Lookman only came in yesterday.”
