Mateo Retegui’s 25th Serie A goal of the season is likely to further strengthen interest from his suitors ahead of the summer transfer window, but Atalanta remain adamant they won’t let him leave after just one season — unlike what happened with Rasmus Højlund and Manchester United.

The Italy international netted the winner in a 3-2 victory over his former club Genoa, breaking Pippo Inzaghi’s record of 24 league goals in a single season for La Dea.

Atalanta unwilling to sell Retegui despite Milan and Juventus interest

Retegui’s clinical finishing is exactly what Gian Piero Gasperini and the club had hoped for when they signed him last summer for around €25m. Now that their investment has proven both smart and fruitful, they are determined not to part ways with the striker.

According to Calciomercato.com, both Juventus and Milan have already made enquiries about the 26-year-old, but Atalanta are firm in their desire to keep hold of a forward seen as a cornerstone of the even more competitive side they aim to build for next season.

With Ademola Lookman and Ederson already potentially on their way out, La Dea are intent on keeping Retegui at all costs and are expected to reject any approaches.
