Ederson’s move to Manchester United hangs in the balance, even after both parties came to an agreement in relation to a potential deal.
The Brazilian midfielder, who was supposed to have his medical after his World Cup campaign came to an end, made 30 appearances in Serie A last season, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
He has been at Atalanta for four seasons, making 180 appearances and scoring 16 goals so far across a variety of competitions including the Champions League.
The 27-year-old’s move to Manchester United appeared off last weekend but United sources claimed that the deal was still on.
What has followed is large amounts of speculation about whether the deal will actually happen, a deal that currently is on the verge of collapse ahead of the rest of the transfer window.
Atalanta have already moved in the transfer market in search of a replacement, something that looks to have been achieved with the signing of Gianluca Gaetano.
Now, however, the Italian club have moved one step further with Gazzetta reporting that Ederson will be offered a new contract at the club.
For Manchester United, their pursuit of Ederson appears to be slipping further and further away as time progresses.
With Andrey Santos likely to join Manchester United, having completed his medical with the club, the Red Devils may switch their focus away from Ederson and towards other midfielders.
Joao Gomes could be one of those alternatives and, with Atletico Madrid’s bid to sign the Brazilian collapsing, the opportunity for a possible move has opened up.
Focus may now switch to seeing if Ederson extends his contract at Atalanta. If he does, it will very likely bring an end to any possibility of him moving to Old Trafford during this summer.
