Tottenham Hotspur’s forgettable season might just be one to remember as they could win their first trophy for 17 years, although luck may already be against them.
Languishing in 17th place, Tottenham Hotspur are on course for their lowest Premier League finish and are guaranteed to break their lowest-ever points tally, with manager Ange Postecoglou coming under criticism.
As for the Red Devils, they will also break their unwanted record for lowest points tally and top-flight finish, with this Manchester United’s worst season since they suffered relegation in 1974.
However, quite bizarrely, both sides find themselves in a European Final and could end the year with silverware, with the two sides meeting in Bilbao on May 21st.

Arguably the hardest and most critiqued job of all in football, the referee for the Europa League Final has been announced, with Germany’s Felix Zwayer being tasked with the job.
Felix Zwayer, from Germany, will referee the Europa League final. Refereed #mufc games vs Sevilla, Villarreal and Benfica in the past.

Zwayer has taken charge of almost 400 games across his career and is a regular figure in the Bundesliga, as well as previously officiating Champions League and European Championship games.
His most recent outing came in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 win in the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal, where he was put under the spotlight for awarding the French giants a controversial penalty that was subsequently saved.
Not one PSG player shouted for handball when this penalty was given against Myles Lewis-Skelly.

This will be Tottenham’s first cup final since losing to Liverpool in the Champions League six years ago, with this their only route into this competition next season, given their league position.
However, Zwayer has officiated two Spurs games in the past and the North London club have failed to win either of them, a bad omen as they chase that long-awaited piece of silverware.
Season | Competition | Opponent | Score |
2015/16 | Europa League | Fiorentina (A) | 1-1 |
2018/19 | Champions League (Group Stage) | Barcelona (H) | 2-4 |
As well as failing to record a win when the German was the referee, Zwayer has also given Spurs nine yellow cards across these two matches and a penalty.
Both teams enter this game in terrible runs of form, however, Manchester United may feel that luck is now on their side.
