Spain's Vicky López was crowned the world's best young female player at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, staged by France Football magazine at the London Palladium theatre on Monday evening.

Lucy Bronze handed over the award. Five players were in the running: Verle Bormann, Vicky López, Felicia Schröder, Clara Serrajordi and Lily Yohannes. The name read out was López, the Barcelona forward who proved once again that the Catalan club's academy keeps churning out talent.

Ballon d'Or award for best coach 2026

Barcelona's night of glory did not end with López. Coach Pere Romeu scooped the award for the world's best coach after an exceptional campaign that drove Barcelona's women's team to fresh heights.

Spanish coach Rafa Benítez handed over the award. This was the man behind the famous Miracle of Istanbul, who steered Liverpool to a historic 3-3 comeback from three goals down before winning on penalties in the 2005 Champions League final.

Romeu is the true architect behind Barcelona women's latest stunning season. The Catalan club reached the podium for a third time, following López and Lamine Yamal, who claimed the award for best young player.

Spain's Cata Coll rounded things off, crowned best goalkeeper in 2026 after a pivotal role in Barcelona's run to the Women's Champions League title.

Barcelona named best women's football club

The Catalan club also scooped the award for best women's football club at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, cementing Barcelona's grip on the category.

Twice before, Barcelona's women had claimed this prize: in 2023, the first edition, and again in 2024. They finished runners-up in 2025.

Pere Romeu's side made history in 2025-26. They swept up four titles, winning the Spanish league, the Copa de la Reina, the Spanish Super Cup and, of course, the Champions League for a fourth time.

Eight Barcelona players earned nominations for the women's Ballon d'Or, with Vicky López and Clara Serrajordi up for the best young talent award. Cata Coll has already landed the best goalkeeper prize, and Pere Romeu takes the honours tonight as best coach.
