Lamine Yamal won't be doing any marketing campaigns anytime soon due to what happened before and after El Clásico ended.
The week prior to the matchup between Real Madrid and Barcelona, Lamine Yamal accused Real Madrid of cheating in their games, lighting up an old rivalry flame not seen in years.
Spain’s national team captain, Dani Carvajal, was the first to object to Yamal’s comments, saying he was going to talk with the player. What really happened, though, was a brawl between Real Madrid and Barcelona players right after the final whistle, with Vinícius Jr. trying to get to Lamine as they were heading to the tunnel.
As the impact of all this is still being felt by both clubs, Barcelona suggested canceling the marketing activation where Lamine Yamal was supposed to talk to the press on Tuesday, and the player has accepted, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Barça have long avoided press conferences for their main players — something Lionel Messi also did in the past — and it has become a common practice. Not much comes out of the club unless they want the public to know it, especially when it comes to their top players.
Now, Yamal won't speak to the media until further notice. The measure aims to prevent questions about what happened in El Clásico and to avoid putting the player under the spotlight again.
Before this, during the offseason, Lamine had already appeared in the media for the wrong reasons.
While Lamine Yamal was not suspended or suffered any known sanctions, Barcelona will most likely handle the matter behind closed doors. Real Madrid is also expected to deal with Dani Carvajal's actions privately.
The situation with the Spain national team remains unclear. Both players have started in recent games, and their partnership on the right side of the field is important for Luis de la Fuente’s game plan.
Carvajal is no longer an undisputed starter, he will continue to be called up by the manager due to his experience and leadership — being the current captain of both the national team and Real Madrid when he’s on the field.
