Barcelona have issued a confirmed update over facing PSG in their second UEFA Champions League game of the season.
La Blaugrana kicked off their UCL campaign with a thrilling 2-1 win away at Newcastle United but controversy remains over their planned Camp Nou return.
After being granted permission to play their first three league games away from home in August, Barcelona missed their deadline of September 14 to host Valencia, at their redeveloped home arena.
That game – and the September 21 clash with Getafe – were moved to the Estadi Johan Cruyff as Barcelona remain locked in a battle with local authorities over licencing.
As per an official update from the club, the PSG game will now be played at their temporary base from last season, the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys.
The Estadi Johan Cruyff does not meet UEFA criteria to hold European games and Barcelona have secured a temporary reprieve from the the former to host PSG.
The club are still working towards a staggered Camp Nou return, in front of a 27,000 capacity crowd.
However they are still waiting on a completion of work certificate from construction group Limak, and must then apply for a licence from the Barcelona City Council to reopen the ground.
Barcelona are now in the process of re-installing the pitch at the Estadio Olímpico Lluís Companys, with the stage from last weekend’s Post Malone concert now fully removed.
UEFA could now push for all matches to be played there in 2025/26 as Europe’s governing body do not want venue changes mid-season.
Despite the latest setback, the club are still confident of heading back to Camp Nou on the 28th of September for Barcelona’s third home game of the season.
That game is at ‘home’ to Real Sociedad, ahead of the October international break, with the next scheduled home tie not until October 18 up against local rivals Girona.
