Last weekend, Barcelona confirmed that Oriol Romeu had left their pre-season tour of the United States in order to pursue a move away. It came as a shock, with the veteran pivot having been expected to stay for the 2024-25 campaign, despite a difficult first 12 months at Can Barca.
Romeu joined from Girona last summer as the “replacement” for Sergio Busquets. It’s a role that he struggled to fill, and it meant that he barely played during the second half of the last season.
Ever since leaving Montilivi, Girona have been keen to re-sign Romeu. They’ve now got their wish, with both them and Barcelona confirming a deal on Monday evening.
