Tottenham could face competition from Barcelona for the signing of highly-rated Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong

Tottenham Hotspur were dealt with several blows before the start of the 2025/26 season.

The fans witnessed the departure of the great Son Heung-min to MLS club Los Angeles in August. New boss Thomas Frank also had to experience the setback of losing James Maddison to an ACL rupture, with the playmaker ruled out for the majority of the campaign.

To bolster their forward department, the north Londoners brought in the likes of Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and Randal Kolo Muani, and there is no doubt that all of these signings will click into gear with more time, cohesion and experience on the pitch under Thomas Frank’s guidance.

However, Tottenham continue to get linked with several other forwards in Europe and beyond. One of them is Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong, who has enjoyed a strong start to the La Liga campaign.

Barcelona closely monitoring Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong

Karl Etta Eyong moved to Levante from Villarreal in the summer, and he has made an immediate impact at the Estadio Ciutat de Valencia. The 21-year-old has already bagged five goals and three assists in eight La Liga outings, including scoring in the recent 2-0 win over Real Oviedo.

Tottenham have been seemingly impressed with the young forward’s performances; however, they are not the only club interested in his services. According to Spanish outlet Diario Sport, Barcelona have been monitoring Eyong’s performances at Levante despite missing out on his signature in the summer due to lack of finances. In fact, the defending La Liga champions’ chiefs have been keeping an eye on the player since his time in the Cadiz youth system.

Eyong eventually signed for Levante in a deal which included an option for Villarreal to buy him. His release clause jumped from €10 million to €30 million, and the Cameroonian accepted the transfer as it guaranteed him regular first-team action. This decision has seen him become one of the coveted young strikers in Europe now.

The aforementioned report adds Barcelona are aware that Eyong would prioritise a move to Catalunya if it becomes an option next summer. The asking fee will be €30 million, which is non-negotiable, given several Premier League clubs are willing to pay it.

Tottenham would be wise to invest in Eyong ahead of Barcelona

Eyong has made a spectacular splash in the Spanish top division. He is strong in the air and sound in possession, making him a real handful for the opposition defenders as witnessed this term in Levante. It is no surprise that the Cameroonian centre-forward’s great early-season form has now alerted several European clubs to his potential availability.

Both Tottenham and Barcelona are in need of prolific goalscoring additions, given their current striker situation. In Richarlison and Dominic Solanke, Spurs have two strikers who can neither be relied upon to stay fit nor produce goals regularly. As far as Barcelona are concerned, Robert Lewandowski is 37 and well beyond his prime, while Ferran Torres continues to blow hot and cold.

Thus, it is apparent why both the clubs are keen on signing a striker and have set their sights on Eyong. At 21, Eyong would be a sensible, long-term investment for them as well as provide them with immediate solution in attack.

However, Barcelona appears to have an edge over Spurs as they know the Levante man would prioritise signing for them next summer if the opportunity arose. Keeping that in mind, the Tottenham chiefs must look to go for the offensive when the transfer window reopens in January and not wait until the summer window to sign Eyong. There is money available to splash and we must wisely invest it.
