Barcelona are facing a major decision in the transfer window, with AC Milan reportedly willing to accept offers of €50 million or more for Rafael Leao, according to Corriere della Sera.

The Portuguese forward has long been admired across Europe, and recent reports suggest he has been identified as a potential alternative to Marcus Rashford.

Rashford’s case already building at Barcelona

Rashford’s situation has quickly become complicated.

The Manchester United forward joined Barcelona on loan last summer and has since impressed, most recently scoring a key goal against Atletico Madrid to strengthen their La Liga push.

Despite that, Barcelona failed to meet United’s €30 million asking price before the agreed deadline, leaving his long-term future unresolved.

Leao emerges as high-cost alternative

That uncertainty has reopened the door for Leao to re-enter the conversation.

However, while the Milan winger offers undeniable quality, Barcelona now face a clear dilemma between continuity and risk.

Rashford is already settled within the squad and has proven he can delivery in key moments, whereas Leao would arrive with a higher price tag and no guarantee of immediate adaptation.

Financially and tactically, it is not a straightforward upgrade.

Rashford vs Leao

Marcus Rashford has been known for his playmaking off the wing this season.

The English winger, currently on loan from Manchester United has registered 6 assists in the La Liga in 1,416 minutes which is four greater than Leao’s 2 assists in 1,500 minutes in the Serie A.

This statistic shows that in terms of assists, Marcus Rashford is far more efficient than AC Milan’s winger Rafael Leao.

However, despite scoring more in other competitions, Rashford has only got 5 league goals, whereas Leao has scored 9 times in the Italian Serie A.

Marcus Rashford averages more successful dribbles per 90 in the La Liga (1.53) than Rafael Leao in the Serie A.

This season, AC Milan didn’t get to feature in the any UEFA competition as they finished 8th place last season but Barcelona did and are still currently competing for the Champions League trophy.

Marcus Rashford has scored 5 goals in the Champions League and is slowly earning the respect of the Culers.

Financial and strategic implications for Barcelona

There is also a wider context to consider.

Leao’s availability at €50 million could be seen as an opportunity in today’s inflated market, but it still represents a significant investment for a player who has shown inconsistency at times this season.

From a Manchester United perspective, the situation remains one to watch.

The club have previously been linked with Leao, with the winger even posting cryptic messages about United on social media in the past, but their current focus appears to be elsewhere.

Ultimately, Barcelona must now decide whether to stick with a player who is already delivering, or gamble on a more expensive, less certain alternative.
